Common Questions

The compass seems inaccurate — what should I do?
iPhone magnetometers can be affected by nearby metal objects, magnets, or cases with magnetic closures. Move away from any such interference and try the figure-eight calibration gesture: hold the phone and trace a figure-eight pattern in the air several times.

What is the difference between True North and Magnetic North?
True North points to the geographic North Pole. Magnetic North points to the Earth's magnetic pole, which shifts over time. Bearing automatically applies local magnetic declination so True North headings are always geographically accurate.

How do I save a waypoint?
Tap the bookmark icon while viewing your current coordinates. You can name the waypoint and retrieve it later from the Waypoints list.

Does AR Compass mode require special permissions?
AR Compass mode uses the device camera. iOS will prompt for camera permission the first time you enter AR mode. Location permission is required for GPS coordinates and True North calculation.
