Gauge does not collect, store, or share personal information. It has no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising, and it never sends your data to us.
Gauge keeps a record of the trips you save — the date and time, the category you chose, top speed, average speed, distance, duration, and a name if you gave it one. If the Record Route setting is on (it is on by default), each trip also keeps a trace of the path you traveled so it can be drawn on a map. All of this is stored only on your device and is deleted when you delete the trip or the app. You can turn Record Route off in Settings at any time, after which no location is stored for new trips.
Gauge uses your phone's location only to measure speed and distance while a trip is recording, and to draw your route if Record Route is on. Recording continues in the background so a trip keeps going while your phone is locked or another app is in front. Gauge does not use your location for anything else, and never at any other time. Location access is requested the first time you start a trip and can be revoked in iOS Settings.
While a trip is recording, Gauge keeps a temporary copy of the trip's running totals on your device so it can recover the trip if the app is interrupted. It is deleted when the trip is saved or discarded.
Gauge makes no network requests of its own. Two things on your phone do talk to Apple, under Apple's privacy policy rather than ours: when you view a trip's map, Apple Maps fetches map imagery from Apple for the area shown; and purchases of Gauge Pro are processed by Apple. National Tool Works does not receive your payment details or any personal information from a purchase.
If you use the Share button, Gauge creates an image and a line of text describing that trip and hands them to the iOS share sheet. What happens next is up to you and the app you share to.
